Back in the laboratory, he reviewed the data. There were statistically significant increases in both heart-rate and respiration rate and, on the occasions where he was able to take readings, there was a correlation between dilation of the pupils and the presence of the second subject. The findings were clear and the only question was what he should do with the information. Making a decision, he picked up the print-outs and took them over to his colleague’s work-station. As he drew near, he felt his pulse speed up.
