Seven Locks (Thursday 12th July 2018)

Inspired by my trip to Studley Grange on Tuesday, I set off today to the only part of the Wilts and Berks not north of Swindon that I haven't explored before. Seven Locks is near Lyneham and is very much a work in progress, being mostly overgrown, although two locks have been rebuilt.
The landowner has made sections of the old towpath permissive paths. The section between Sodom Lane and Bowd's Lane proved impassable, but the path to the north of Bowd's Lane can be followed past a couple of locks to a padlocked gate further up. It was full of wildflowers and butterflies and on the way back I spotted this Ringlet on some ragwort. It was joined by a Gatekeeper (see Extra).
