The Generation Game...

The coal industry in the Aire Valley is all linked together by a web of rails reaching out from the Ground at Kellingley where the coal first saw daylight, right into the furnaces of Drax, Eggborough and Ferrybridge 'C'. Kellingley Traction Maintenance Depot was responsible for the readiness and care of all rollingstock and locomotives operating within the Aire Valley.

Here we see a visiting locomotive from Crewe, a Brush Type 4 No. 47815 'Great Western' Powering on from Drax with an Empty train for Kellingley. Eggborough can be seen in steam above the East Coast Mainline, a scene typical of what the valley looked like in the not so distant past.
