Musselburgh Sashing Ceremony

Musselburgh has a long and proud past, having been granted a Burgh of Barony in 1315 (the Romans were there in AD80 too) and with such history comes a lot of tradition, such as the annual Sashing Ceremony. The ceremony commemorates the handing of the sashes from last year’s honest lad and lass (the town is known as the ‘honest toun’) to this year’s lad and lass. The ceremony is full of tradition, speeches, singing and dancing, and makes you feel proud to live in the town.

Anyway, it’s the crusading horses over the River Esk tomorrow, which I will try and back in time for.

Hope you have had a good Sunday.
