Here are James, Chris and Cathy, who are three of the wonderful volunteers who make the Haltwhistle Walking Festival run smoothly.

Today was the first of our new First Aid awareness courses, run entirely in-house. We had 10 victims willing participants. Most of the training concentrates on preparing each team (3 per walk) for what might happen, planning how you might deal with incidents and how to deal with incidents.

Resuscitation has to be included, but we try not to make it the be all and end all. 

Everyone today entered into the spirit of the training - at times, almost too enthusiastically, and we had a great time. When we did role plays of incidents during walks, some of them became the best thespians you can imagine and were hard to control!


It's a long time since I've done a full day of teaching and I nearly lost my voice. All is restored after 30 minutes on the bed and a good meal. I loved it. Gwen, Ann and I were the trainers and we return to play again in a month's time.
