France Day 3: Beautiful Beaune

We didn’t have to check out of our Paris hotel until midday so we were able to have a leisurely breakfast at the cafe we ate at yesterday. I love sitting outside In the sunshine eating croissants and drinking coffee. Such a lovely start to the day.

We had a 3 hour drive south to our next stop at the town of Beaune, in a famous wine producing area. Despite the slightly dated hotel which looked like it might have been the inspiration for The Shining, the town was absolutely beautiful and we spent the rest of the afternoon wandering around the cobbled streets, stopping for the odd glass of local plonk. It seemedd rude not to go to a proper wine tasting and we found a good one where we were able to taste several wines ranging from around 30 euros to 150. I don’t think D and I have refined enough palates for fine red wine; we still prefer a nice bottle of Aussie Shiraz.

We found a lovely restaurant for dinner in the main square, next to a pretty fountain. After dinner the children went back to the hotel and us oldies had a quick night cap before heading home to bed. A long journey ahead of us on Monday.
