We do like to be beside the seaside...

Whitby FW - backblip 8 (Friday)

Breakfast at Java with Tom and Dorothy, a tradition on the last day of the festival. At 2.00pm sharp the Music and Craft Fair closed its doors until next year, and we packed away the instruments and stall, and said our goodbyes.

Back to the caravan for a short while before walking down to Crescent Gardens to watch the Garland Parade. Just before the dancers set off, the heavens opened - by the time the parade finished at the Bandstand, most of them were soaked, but carried on regardless. We followed the parade, making a couple of detours on route to talk to friends, and by the time we reached the Bandstand the sun was shining. After watching the dancing, we walked to the end of the pier and back, and went up to Silver Street and queued for fish & chips, which we ate with a sea view.

To walk off some of the calories, we climbed the 199 steps up to the abbey, and watched the sunset. Then back down and over to the Ship to listen to some music before heading back to the caravan for the last time.

One of those rare days when there are so many Blip opportunities that you don’t know which one to post. The main blip shows White Rose Morris who, in true Whitby fashion, started their dance at the Bandstand and finished it in the sea! Extras show the Garland leaving Crescent Gardens, a rather cute dog watching the procession from a first-floor window, a young member of Horwich Prize Medal Morris Men (his blue hair not exactly matching their kit!), Sheffield Steel Rapper, a view of the Abbey from the end of the pier, the Abbey bathed in evening sunlight, and sunset over Sandsend.
