Smokey 1818 hr (Monday 27th August 2018)

Bank holidays are all about getting away from it all, but ironically when you get to wherever you choose, everyone else is there and you haven't so much got away as run headlong into it.

I find the best place to get away from it all is my home, which has been specifically maintained in such a way as to afford more of my requirements and comforts than anywhere else in the world. And so it was that I spent the day engaged in a variety of productive and satisfying projects.

Smokey was out for most of the day getting away from it all in his own feline way, but came back to sit on the porch writing-table in good time for his evening meal.

Behind him are various empty bottles for which I have no further use but can't throw away. Perhaps they might have a second life as vases for cut flowers or something. Suggestions on a postcard.

Showing that the basic arrangement of Cream's studio version of Robert Johnson's Crossroads was brought to the group by Clapton already formed. Released on Elekra's What's Shakin' mixed artist compilation before anyone knew who most of these players were, the session was produced by Joe Boyd who had just set up office at Elektra in London, with an all-star line-up as suggested by Paul Jones, then in Manfred Mann (as was Jack Bruce).
