Smokey, 1810 hr

I took a few shots of Smokey, trying out the LED Super Macro flash mode on the Olympus Tough, but have ultimately chosen this shot which was taken without any flash. I like the sepia appearance, although the colour is at it came off the camera, as you can see from the occasional appearance of colour, such as in his eyes and on the open copy of Radio Times he is spread out upon.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Flying Burrito Brothers - Dark End Of The Street (1969)
Dark End Of The Street was written by Dan Penn, whose birthday is 16 November 1941, and Chips Moman. Dan Penn grew up in Vernon AL and began his career at the legendary FAME Studios as a performer, staff writer, and producer. In early 1966, he moved to Memphis, working with Chips Moman at his American Studios.  Dark End Of The Street was their first collaboration, originally by James Carr but since recorded by many others, including this classic rendition by the Flying Burrito Brothers. It is an example of the country-soul fusion that Gram Parsons referred to as "cosmic American music," following his pioneering work in the Byrds. It appeared on their debut album, The Gilded Palace Of Sin.
Appropriately, the song is told from the point of view of  an adulterer, addressing his illicit lover, as they continue in their sin, "hiding in shadows where [they] don't belong" while their "love keeps coming on strong."
"We were always wanting to come up with the best cheatin' song. Ever," Dan Penn is quoted as saying, and the song came to be written in about thirty minutes. Penn and Moman had themselves been cheating while playing cards with a Florida DJ named Don Schroeder, at a DJ convention in Memphis TN in the summer of 1966, and wrote the song while on a break.
