Vøringsfoss Waterfall and Hardanger Fjord

Today was packed with activity again and we saw such wonderful vistas it was really hard to choose . However this picture illustrates the wonderful light on the water we experienced for a fleeting while whilst we were enjoying a 3 hour cruise on the Hardanger Fjord from Eidfjord to Norheimsund. This was very different from yesterday’s experience as the Hardanger Fjord is much wider and we stopped at little settlements along the way . At one of them we saw the hut where Edward Grieg would compose during the Summer.

After we left Voss in the morning we travelled over the Hardanger Plateau stopping at the ‘piece de resistance ’ of waterfalls - Vøringsfoss. Viewing platforms had been artistically provided round the top of the gorge for viewing. We also stopped at another waterfall where the toilets had a glass floor and window to enjoy the vista !! ( see extras )
At times it was blowing a gale on the boat so after travelling by coach past ski huts and more waterfalls and rivers we were pleased to arrive in Bergen .

A quick unloading of cases and we all walked to a well known restaurant in Bergen known as ‘The Potato Cellar ‘ - we were literally dining in the 15th Century cellar and the meal did contain lots of potatoes but was delicious!
Other observations today were the number of tunnels the Norwegians have built which even contain roundabouts and lights at certain intervals so drivers don’t drop asleep .
We also spotted our first herons - until today we had seen very few birds surprisingly.
