Sgwarnog: In the Field

Rout

I've been to Plumpton Park a few times to watch Eccleshill United but the ground is also home to the Bradford City Women's Football Club who tonight were hosting local rivals Guiseley Vixens. I saw the two teams at Nethermoor last season.

Both teams have had a tough start to the newly branded FA Women's National League Northern Division with City losing their opening three and Guiseley their opening two fixtures. Both clubs seem to have quite new, young teams.

The Vixens started brightly and took an early lead and then doubled it. City pulled one back almost immediately and it stayed 1-2 until the hour mark when things started to go badly wrong for City. A handball in the City box led to a sending off and a converted penalty: 1-3.  Guiseley made the most of the one player advantage by rattling in a further four goals for a final score of 1-7, a bit of a rout.

I follow both teams, so I hope this doesn't knock City's confidence too much, but Guiseley will be pleased to be up and running for the season.
