The Start of the Fall Colors at Millbrook

I don't typically spend a lot of time at the marsh during summer. But with the arrival of fall and then the coming winter, the marsh begins to call my name again. We are on the cusp now: summer is sliding into autumn. The change is coming.

I made a quick stop at Millbrook Marsh on Thursday morning, just to see what was up. Things were very quiet. A huge gray squirrel and a tiny red squirrel ran across in front of me. The boardwalk is covered in wet leaves, so watch your step; it may be slippery here and there.

The news, though, for those seeking colors, is that the show is in the very stages of just beginning. There are tinges of gold and maroon and red here and there that weren't there before. The colors are coming! The colors are coming!

And here's a favorite song from my childhood about colors to go with this joyful occasion: Dolly Parton, Shania Twain, and Alison Krauss, Coat of Many Colors.
