Golf and surgery

“That’s amazing!” said the man in front of me in the orthopaedic clinic, reading a poster on the wall.
“12 weeks after hip replacement I will be able to play golf.
“I have never played golf in my life.”

Today I was at the Golden Jubilee hospital in Glasgow for my six-week check up following knee replacement.

Orthopaedic and cataract clinics engender an air of camaderie amongst folk.  We swop stories, drug regimes, symptoms  and even whip off our clothes to show total strangers our incisions with abandon.

On the other hand maybe it’s a Glasgow thing. Difficult to imagine this happening in Edinburgh.

I have been signed off for year.
