Black Skimmer

Captured late this afternoon at Patriot Point in Charleston, at a large marina there (the marina does not show on the map). Dozens of other Black SKimmers were on the long dock behind this individual.  We spent a wonderful morning an hour northwest of Charleston at the Beidler Forest Audubon Center--"the world's largest virgin cypress-tupelo swamp forest", to quote its website. It was an impressive experience, although birds were rather few and far between.  The main outing of the afternoon was a regular boat tour to Fort Sumter, where the first military confrontation of the American Civil War took place in April 1861, which gave us a good sense of that important part of our history.
