Shaggy Cow Story

Highland cattle. It is thought that they were first brought to Scotland from Europe by Neolithic people several thousand years ago.

They became established in the Scottish Highlands and Outer Hebrides and the first records of them are in the 6th.century A.D.
They are very hardy having two coats of hair and having been bred to cope with cold wet conditions.
Although they look rather fierce they are quite docile creatures. But there is one exception. You should never get between the adults and their young (nor allow a dog to do so) as they are very protective.
There are said to be about 15,000 in the UK but they can also be found in many other parts of the world.
