Sgwarnog: In the Field

Singed

I was overdue another visit to Campion whose ground is tucked in behind Manningham Mills, around halfway between work and home. Tonight they were hosting AFC Emley in the NCEL League Cup Third Round.

Campion have had a strong start to the season and are currently second in the NCEL First Division, with Emley back in a mid-table eleventh. It was Emley who had the better of the early play though, and they deservedly took the lead mid-way through the first half. Campion were still very much in the game but weren't able to conjure up any clearcut chances and Emley were resolute in defence. 0-1 it finished.

There wasn't much sign of Halloween activity as I walked up and down Oak Lane before and after the match, but there were plenty of fireworks and loud bangs. Given the proximity to the BRI and Manningham Police Station there's always plenty of blue lights and sirens in this neighbourhood, and tonight there was also a fire unit rinsing down a back street blaze, but I made it back down to my bus stop on manningham lane without getting singed.
