A Night with Dickens

Dear Diary,

I am so glad I braved the horrendous weather to go to Portland to see Gerald Dickens enact A Christmas Carol at the First Parish Church.  This was Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's church and he was best friends with Dickens so the venue was appropriate.  No photos allowed during the performance, of course, so I took a photo of the stage area with its few props and later added an image from his website.

It was a stunning tour de force in both acting and interpretation of this much loved Christmas classic.  He played 30 different parts during the performance and kept the audience mesmerized.  For 1 hour and 40 minutes he went from character to character, often interacting with the audience.  It was a mixture of laughter and drama.  A 2 hour, white knuckled ride home, I was barely able to get into my driveway.  Now, we are out of power and the yard is riddled with fallen branches.  But my generator is humming along and I went out with a long pole to knock the snow off the satellite dish so I could get the internet.  I will worry about digging out later.
