Pileated woodpecker

The pileated woodpeckers have been AWOL from our backyard buffet since we made the decision to remove the huge oak tree they visited regularly. I was sad to lose the tree and worried that we wouldn't see the woodpeckers again because I had neither seen nor heard them in the neighborhood, but this week they reappeared...much to my delight. This one flew in quietly as I was eating my breakfast this morning, and luckily I caught sight of it.

The extra birds in today's blip is a pair of mourning doves.
