Hieronymus Bosch

This wonderful jigsaw was lent to us by Graham and Gilly, it’s their favourite. The pieces are all individual shapes which makes them fun to place. But the details in the painting are quite amazing. ‘The Garden of Earthly Delights ‘ is the most famous triptych by Hieronymus Bosch, a Netherlandish artist 1450-1516. His bizarre imagery depicts religious themes of desire, fear, bliss, agony but they are remarkably modern and prescient of modern times including the Holocaust and the Industrial Revolution. Must make an effort to see it first hand in Madrid!
Footnote RIP David Austin Snr. His work established a whole new type of English Roses for the world and he will be missed. See extra.
