Winter Visitors

I didn't get a single visit from a Pyrrhuloxia in 2018.  Then today, when I woke up to melting snow, both a male and female were hopping around.  Do you think one would pose in the snow?  Nope.  A curve-billed thrasher was more cooperative.  First he tried to sip from the frozen water in the dish.  Apparently realizing that snow was also liquid, he stood in some for a while lapping up a bit of it.  If you look carefully, you may be able to see his tongue.

This was the first of two consecutive days of snow, which for us, even at 3,000 feet, one day is SUPER unusual.  Check out the snow pics from  my backyard on 2 January.
