A day in the life

Pond

Along one of my walks lays this man made pond. On Öland, the island where I live, water is a scarce resource so many farmers have created ponds where water is gathered during the rainy autumn and winter season, to be used during the often dry summer and harvest season when the plants and animals need lots of water. This particular pond also gather its water from a pump connected to drainage systems to prevent excessive water flooding the fields when there is much snow or heavy rainstorms. This way the farmer can maintain a steady access to water during dry periods, like last summer when many farmers here had a really difficult time finding water for their crops and water for their animals.

And, it's such a nice pond to walk around too. There is always various birds around, seeking shelter and food in the water, bushes and trees, even during winter. In spring the plants and wildlife explodes and it's a real treat to be there. Today, I found an abundance of stillness.
