Wightwick Manor

It’s been many years since I visited Wightwick Manor. The original Victorian house was built in 1887 for the Mander brothers, owners of a local paint and varnish manufacturers. In the extras the tall chimneystacks and carved quatrefoils designed by architect Edward Ould. The Great Parlour, added in 1893 and stained glass produced by Charles Kempe. I spent some time talking to a volunteer in the kitchen, hopefully in the future the cast iron range will be working again. Smokeless fuel has caused some damage needing expensive repairs and a magpie has nested in the chimney. Well worth another visit when the upstairs reopens and to catch all the decorative details we’ve undoubtedly missed first time around, the cake in the cafe is good too : )
