Fish Trap • Верша

Kolomija (Kolomea), Ukraine | Pentax Optio LS1100.

We have snow again, frost — we are glad :) I went to the spring for water. I've already written about the streams that flow from these springs. These streams flow into the ponds, and from there flow into the Radilyvka (a small river), which flows into the Prut River.

By one of the ponds, I found a very old fishing trap — versha (верша). Someone pulled it out of the water... It's very similar to the eel trap, known in England, or to the hīnaki (Māori fish trap), but this trap was used to catch pond fish.  Traditionally fish traps were made of willow rods, but such tackles have not been made for a long time. I remember that in the 80's this traps were widely used in Ukraine.
