Tweed ...

This is the wonderful shop in which we spent two pleasurable hours this morning, emerging with Mr PB’s birthday present, the Harris Tweed jacket of his dreams. It’s in Edinburgh’s Cowgate - I’ll post a photo of this elsewhere, as I don’t know how to do it here on my phone - and it’s a row of three old shops run together, full of corners, creaking wooden floors and winding staircases. A marvellous assortment of old books lie casually dotted about, and all through the space are rails of jackets, coats, shirts and hats.

Attentive and knowledgeable service led us to a tweed that had all the characteristics of style and functionality that we could wish for. And it was the first time, I think, that I’ve seen my other half enjoying the purchase of clothes for himself.
