Some of my regular visitors may remember that recently the HG and I attended the 100th birthday celebrations of the HG's Uncle Robert, after whom the HG was named.

In honour of the occasion, in December he was given a unique tour on HMNB Clyde along with his granddaughter Jennifer, who is a Police Constable with the Ministry of Defence Police Clyde Marine Unit. Jennifer  said it was the ideal birthday gift for him.

He served from 1940 to 1946 in the Royal Navy as an ordnance artificer, inspecting, testing and preparing a variety of guns, shells, mines and bombs.

An article was published about his visit in the Helensburgh Advertiser newspaper, from where I copied the photograph.

They made them tough in these days!
