A day in the life

Some days are workdays. A student of mine challenged me to help her transcribe a background choir for a song she wants to perform at a concert. This task was quite demanding, actually, sometimes it can be difficult to hear what is going on, how many parts there is, what tempo, key, rhythm and all the other little details to take into account before putting the music down on paper. In this case I worked directly in my notation program in the computer. First listen, try on my guitar and then writing it into my computer. I find it often easier if I can hear what I'm writing at the same time as I hear the artist do it on Spotify, in this case.

She wanted me to transcribe a song I've never heard of before. Written and performed by a group called "In this moment" and the song is 11:11. I got really hooked on it while working with it. Easy and complicated and beautiful at the same time and a singer with a very expressive voice. Exciting music. I'm sure my student is going to do a great job of it and I'm glad to be able to help her with the backing vocals. I'm looking forward to hearing it.
