The Surprising Mural

Another Lakes church that has been weather proofed with concrete belying a beautiful interior. Delighted  to find a lovely   mural inside (extra) , painted in 1919 after WW1 supposedly reflecting post war desolation with the angels kneeling in prayer with a backdrop of some desolate Lakes scenery. 
The little chapel of St John is at the top of a hill, at the end of Helsington Barrows ,  with wonderful views to Morecambe Bay. It serves the village of Brigsteer at the bottom of the hill. Why is the church at the top, because the farmer who paid for it in 1732 was just short way down the track.
