Working for nothing!

Another cold but glorious day today. I spent the day in the garden at Dunollie Castle, with Eilidh the gardener, two of her volunteers and two 'Keep Oban Beautiful' volunteers.

The  15th century castle ruin, the 1745 house and the garden are now run by a charity and the rest is still owned by the MacDougall family. The garden has been neglected for a long time and is used for various purposes by various community groups, but the charity wants to clean up the garden and bring it up to a better standard. Today we were moving logs and cut rounds of timber to the front of the house where one of the KOB volunteers was splitting them with his log-splitter and stacking them in the porch to dry. This is Eilidh doing her stuff.

We were also taking branches and other burnable timber down to the bonfire site where tomorrow we'll be burning it all! I'd arranged for a reporter from the Oban Times to come along and takes notes for a piece in the paper  - he'll be back tomorrow to take photographs of the volunteers having a bonfire. All exciting stuff for the readers!
