Smoke Haze……

………………………& Clouds

Back Blip for Friday.

Sunset scene at Grossi Point, Mapua, NZ seen through a mix of smoke and evening clouds.

A major wild fire began Tuesday afternoon at Pigeon Valley, south of Nelson city and as I write this Saturday morning it continues to burn fiercely.

With twenty two helicopters fighting the fire it is now the biggest aerial fire fighting operation in New Zealand’s history.

It covers an area of 2000 hectares, much of it forestry, but also homes and lifestyle blocks. Roads are closed and many homes have been evacuated. Through good fire fighting skills only one home has been destroyed and a number amazingly saved.

Friday evening/night residents of Wakefield township, a total of 2500 people, were evacuated while areas south of the township are required to prepare for evacuation as a precautionary measure.

The NZ Army, Airforce and extra police are also providing personnel and equipment.

A state of emergency is still in place.

We live miles from the fire, but our house still fills with the smell of smoke and for the last two days, smoke haze is a visual occurrence.

Thank you every one for the comments, stars and hearts for Thursday’s abstract of a peacock feather. The colour seen this close is intriguing.
