Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

Octagenarians with Grit

After a zillion emails the last 2 days, and early TV warnings today to stay home, (Seattle school snow day #5), and realizing the buses were either not running or still on emergency routes, these ladies decided they were definitely not wimps and got in their cars and drove on slushy streets to have book club with the 6 of us. (I’m not including myself because all I had to do was negotiate the slush in walking boots for 2 blocks  2 were out of town, 1 a necessary schedule change, only one couldn't get here.  ).  All fine and well worth it..as well as celebrating 2 February birthdays!  I think we had all been cooped up with cabin fever the last few days as there was A LOT of  talking talking.   And even some mixed discussion  (!) of the book, Infinite Home by Kathleen Alcott, a very young writer that puts words together in exquisite sentences.   About a community of misfits in a Brooklyn Brownstone with an old landlady slowly becoming demented and one 30 something child with “Williams Syndrome” as one of her beloved tenants.   I liked it a lot…right on the tails of “Milkman” the newest Man-Booker prize winner by Irish Anna Burns which one of these ladies gave up on and gave me…It was definitely hard work to read, almost stream of consciousness, few paragrahs, but kept me at it for the story and the times..Northern Ireland in the 70s..in an innovative way.    A snowstorm is a good time to read by the fire….now,  Unsheltered by Barbara Kingsolver seems a natural follower to Infinite Home. It’s been a lovely time…. the snow is taking longer to disappear than I would have thought, but it’s going!

Haven't put up an iPad drawing in a while  but snowstorms are good for doodling by the fire too.  In my other journal
