Sgarbh

I stopped by Loch Striven this morning in order to get a few shots - I am slowly getting used to a  Nikon P900 with an  amazing lens which ranges from superb wide-angle - as in my extra photo - to extreme close up.

This cormorant - I think it is a cormorant - was sitting on an old buoy in the loch, one of the ones used to mark the area for WWII  test runs of what was called a "highball" bomb, a precursor of the famous "bouncing bomb".   Some years ago a team of divers recovered at least one of them from the sea bed.  

Cormorants, or Sgarbh in Gaelic, used to be  a favourite game bird for fishermen and others on the west coast  though they taste very fishy.
