Warwick

We went to see Maureen and Ian this afternoon.  The weather was dry, a bit cloudy, but not cold so we went for a walk around Warwick racecourse.  There is a path all round the track, St. Mary's Lands being enclosed within giving M & I a lovely view from their apartment.

This is the half furlong marker.  This mode of measurement is not used widely these days, except in racing, though I remember being taught in school one furlong equals one eighth of a mile, I'm sure very useful in medieval agriculture times as a furlong is the distance a team of oxen could plough without resting, though I would have thought that depended on the individual oxen.

The grandstand is in the background, empty of course as there was no racing today.
