Warning - Taiwan Day 5

I planned to have a walk before breakfast but it was raining so it was a quick stop over the road to the canal.

After breakfast we set off for the old part of Tainan, Anping. It was very interesting. We started at the Tait house which tells the story of the Tait trading company founded by James Tait. There was s lot of information about the trading links to other parts of SE Asia and the westerners who developed them, many Scots. There is also a building overtaken by banyan tree, a tree house.

Then back to look at s temple. Most folk didn't go in but there was. lengthy discussion about the horoscopes listed outside. There was final agreement that I am s dragon.

After an early lunch we had free time and I manner to see the old Dutch fort, Fort Zeelandia, and the former shore of the city.

Then it was s drive to Taichung City, further north. It was scheduled to take 90 mins but was more like hours. Many of us slept and I also read my book. The west side of Taiwan is very flat and quite industrial. The cloudbase was also lie so not a great view out the window. There were paddy fields and other crops being grown but not the pineapples and bananas we saw further south.

Or last stop was Rainbow Village which is s big tourist attraction but is add some buildings that we veterans home which were painted vibrant colours by pinner man who is still alive at 94. He sits at the tourist shop looking sad. I found it quite an odd experience.

Then dinner. I can't get used to the fact that after agrees on the bus we go straight to dinner and the hotel second but tonight it was just as well we went early, before 6. We were at Shibu Shibu a DIY hotpot restaurant. Masses of raw food to cook on soup gritty, cooked food, drinks, cashed, ice cream. It was amazing but it got very busy with groups.

Then to the hotel in a very busy area, the setting for the night market. I did have a wander but unlike some of my bus sharers I didn't need any more food (there is food at every stop) and none of the clothes or does were interesting.
