If you can't beat them...

Trent & Mersey Canal.

We wanted a fairly early start for our drive down for a couple of days visit to the Photography show at the NEC.  Just as we were getting ready I glanced out of the window and noticed the stream between our house and next door was bursting its banks.  Jacket, over trousers & wellies on I dashed out. Experience has shown that if I clear the grid it usually goes down quickly.  Grid cleared and the level dropped rapidly.

Soaked I changed  and we were almost away.  A glance at the stream showed it was almost over its banks again.  So off out and clear it again.   This time we real had to be on our way so it was put up the "flood gate" and cross our fingers.  The run down was horrendous, lashing rain and strong winds.  Eventually we reached our destination safely, settled the caravan and settled in for a comfortable night.

Before finally settling we went along to the farm shop and tried to take a blip of the canal.  I could only get this shot as looking the other way from the bridge had two problems.  Rain driving straight into the lens and the umbrella being blown inside out.
