Yam of Spout Lane (Thursday 21st March 2019)

It had been almost a fortnight since I had seen a canal so I made up for it with two visits on Thursday. Sells Green marked my first stop looking for a blip, and almost at once I met this houseboat cat who jumped down onto the narrow ledge of the narrowboat and ran nimbly along it, affording me a photo opportunity. A little later I met the lady on the boat and learned that the cat is named Yam, and she had a sibling called Beans.

On my way home I stopped at Caen Hill to check on the swans. The female was sitting on a nest after all, but not at her usual site at The Monument Lock but at the unnamed Lock 42 which is the next one down. Her partner was in the side pound behind (see Extra). I didn't want to get too close (although she is used to me and doesn't usually mind) so I don't know if there are eggs or not.
