Went to an old fishing village today. We were supposed to be going by cable car to see the big Lantau Buddha but the winds this morning put my wife off.
Tai O is a traditional Chinese fishing village, with the houses built on stilts over the water. There’s quite a mixture of buildings, owing to the typhoons which roll in off the Pearl River Delta and periodically flatten half of them. There used to be pink dolphins off the shore which the fishermen would take tourists out to - but sadly the development of the airport and now the Hong Kong to Macau bridge network seems to have scared them all off.
