Blossom at dusk

A day of meetings with no time to get out and about with a camera. Alex and I started the day at Stamford Cemetery, helping to mark out 'no-mow' areas to protect some of the less common plants that grow there. We were accompanied by Sarah, who oversees the cemetery, and it was a good opportunity to show her why the cemetery is so important for wildlife.

In the afternoon I was at a meeting to discuss the John Clare Countryside Vision, a potentially exciting project aiming to restore habitats and species in the area to the west of Peterborough, while also invigorating the local community. The discussion was useful, though I couldn't help feeling that there was rather a heavy bias towards middle-aged, middle-class men, who didn't have much experience of the many challenges faced by the residents of Peterborough's urban core.

When I returned home I dashed outside to capture the blossom on our cherry tree, normally at its best on Pete's birthday, but peaking at least a couple of weeks early this year. The flowers seemed to be very popular with Tree Bumblebees, who already seemed to have raised a generation of very tiny workers.
