Carpenter Bee that Didn't Survive the Winter

This deceased carpenter bee was resting comfortably on a board, likely close to the drilled hole it fell from. Carpenter bees drill one cm diameter holes in the rafters of our shed where the females lay their eggs. Males do not sting but females will if provoked. I keep my distance.

An iPhone XR with attached Moment macro lens was placed about one cm from the nearest point on the bee. CameraPixels was used to focus bracket 50 images and Affinity Photo was used to focus align and merge the images. The bee is about 2 cm long.
