Stuff and Nonsense

Oystercatchers #43

Today we went to Wales to visit RSPB Conwy to see what was around. We haven't visited for nearly a year and as the weather looked good decided to make the trip. My aim today was to get a blip (of course) and at least one new bird for my list (I'm up to 175 now for the year) and I am pleased to report that we achieved both.
There was lots of birdsong as we walked around the reserve but my identification skills are not great when it comes to their song, but we were able to identify most from finding them eventually - willow warbler, chiff chaff, black cap, robin, great tit, blue tit, greenfinch but the pick of the day was my first ever redstart! It was only a quick sighting so no photo I'm afraid but it was very exciting to see it in all its splendour. They are such beautiful looking birds.

Since the tide was out there weren't too many birds on the estuary apart from Shelducks, so after a pub lunch we went over to the Spinnies reserve near Bangor for an hour or two.
We had lovely views of the great spotted woodpecker, siskins, goldfinches, nuthatch, tits, white egrets, shelduck, redshank and lots of lovely oystercatchers. We didn't wait until the tide was fully in as it was getting late, but we had a thoroughly enjoyable day.
