Castle view

We had a day out today visiting charming Stokesay Castle, unchanged architecturally since the last 17th century inhabitants and preserved largely because of the interest of one very devoted woman. Unfortunately, the weather was very cold and the castle was very 'original' ie no glass in windows (shutters only, mediaeval style) and occasional inward ingress of rain. It was a fascinating place, but I'd suggest a warm day for visiting! And my respect for our forebears' hardiness has gone up a few notches.

Close by is the church which is an absolute gem. Old box pews, including those for the local gentry, painted texts on the walls, tranquility. But also very cold ... so coffee and soup at the associated tearoom and then back to do the food shop, collecting a repaired ring of Mum's and giving Poppydog an extra wander.

Machine quilted a little quilt for Project Linus - one of the quilts made whilst on the long car journeys up and down to Orkney. Nothing special but it's eaten a little into the fabric legacy of Mum's!

LH's mum is back home already but extremely tired. I feel she could have done with a couple more days' care but what do I know?! Actually, knowing her independent nature (aka stubbornness!) she probably asked to be discharged!
