Murderous games

Frustrating day in many ways although some useful meetings/conversations....it was the tussles over the minutiae of wording in various documents between the meetings that I found tricky.
Over to the Gifford lecture at the end of the day... entertaining and interesting run through the nature of gladiatorial games in Roman times and the extent to which there are similarities with today’s approach to observing violence. I was fascinated to hear that the coliseum in Rome could hold approx. 50,000 people but the Circus Maximus chariot race track could take 500,000 spectators. Perhaps because the Coliseum has survived we’ve tended to see the activities held there as more core to Roman life than the chariots....
Stopped off at Tanjore for a very delicious supper before home to work and plan Mt&H birthday presents in discussion with various other family members...
