Ely Eel Day 2019

It’s that time of year when the residents of Ely celebrate their city’s history by flinging eels around the place. No eels are harmed in the flinging, but the same can’t be said for the jellied eels for sale from the fish stall.

We went to Samovar, ostensibly for a hot drink to warm up after wandering round the stalls and sipping a pint each, but really so I could have a slice of vegan eel mud pie cake. Sadly, it was so delicious, it didn’t last long enough to be photographed (see extra).

Last year, it was hot and sunny; this year, cold and wet with sunny spells.
