Stuff and Nonsense

Grey Wagtail #59

The weather didn't look too promising today with rain forecast from lunchtime, but we have been very lucky again and not seen more than a few spots. It's been a very grey day, but we've had a lovely day at Aysgarth Falls. This is the site where Robin Hood meets Little John on the river in the movie "Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves". I wasn't too hopeful for a good days birding but we actually saw 23 different species including a kestrel, woodpecker, red legged partridges, sandpipers, dippers and these grey wagtails who were bossing the river in terms of catching flies. This little fella was waiting patiently on his rock until mum and dad came down with a beakful of food. It was lovely to watch.
We had a sandwich and piece of cake at the coffee shop at the falls and then spent a couple of hours at the higher falls watching the wagtails, dippers and a bunch of kids trying to cross the river without getting their feet wet!
