The difference between levels of price of sanding pads appears to be that the cheaper of the two are more likely to fly off without you noticing it, resulting in a brief attempt to sand using the velcro on the wiggling pad, which is fortunately replaceable. The same weird under-paint gunk which would melt onto the borrowed belt sander's belts is also quite effective at gumming up the loops.
