Sgwarnog: In the Field

Fleet

I was back in Woodlesford for another cup final at the West Riding County FA headquarters. This time I left a bit more time to explore the adjacent stretches of the Aire-Calder Navigation and River Aire beforehand.

Unfortunately the rain started as I left work and continued through the evening but I saw enough to know that I need to come back on a fine day for the birds and butterflies. I was approaching Fleet Bridge when this heron flew up from the river and perched in front of me. In and about the river there were plenty of cormorants (extra) and terns.

At the football it was the WYAFL League Cup Final. Premier Division runners up Leeds City were playing Shelley Reserves of the Second Division and that superiority showed in a comfortable 4-0 win for Leeds.
