Holiday day 5 - Tarbert to Ardvourlie

We took it easy this morning with a wander around the tourist highlights of Tarbert: Tarbert Stores (closed, perhaps indefinitely?), the craft fair in the village hall, the distillery, the 'department' store, and the Harris Tweed shop. We returned to our hotel for coffee/tea, and then soup for lunch before the big cycling challenge of the day.

The Clisham is the highest hill on Harris at 799 metres and the toughest climb of our holiday. I have been dreading it for months, and for good reason. I was very tempted at one point to get off and push, but I was too proud to give in, so managed to cycle the whole distance :-)

Our accommodation tonight is on a working croft very close to the Harris-Lewis border. The highlight of my day was to help tend to Betsy and Bruno, the two baby lambs who must be bottle-fed every four hours.

I have blipped a view of the route ahead just before we started our ascent of the Clisham, and included as an extra a shot that Mr hazelh took of me with Betsy.

Exercise today: 12 miles of tough cycling.
