Discovery Museum

The girls spent yesterday afternoon and evening visiting with Tom & I at our house, and I’d promised them that today we’d all go do something together. Although Jennie had to go to work, we kept Mae home from daycare, & while Tom’s brother took Tom to his chemo treatment, Courtney (my step-daughter), the twins, Mae & I all went to the Discovery Museum at the Lakefront. It’s been open for years, but this is the first time any of us have been inside it, & we all enjoyed it! They had turtles and snakes—a big hit with the girls—a huge room that housed small versions of the 5 Great Lakes, along with facts about each of them, the importance of fresh water, pollution prevention, & weather systems; we were even treated to a manufactured thunder storm over Lake Superior! I liked the giant tanks full of freshwater fish, & here the girls are watching the fish swimming around. Tons of fun things for them to do, from virtual reality goggles to puzzles to scientific experiments to a nearly full sized ship right in the middle of the building that they can play on! When we finished we went to lunch—Jennie took her lunch break at the same time so she could meet us at the restaurant. Great food, great service, then back home so the kids could play for awhile. Mae cried and cried when they left; they’re flying home tomorrow afternoon already. We sure wish they weren’t so far away so we could see them more often! We’ll miss them!
