Quechee Gorge

Pretty straightforward drive down the I91 to our final overnight stop in Wales, Massachusetts until we came to the I90, the Boston Turnpike road for the last leg of the journey. Turns out it’s a toll road and despite choosing a non-toll option we were on the toll road for 4 to 5 miles, which appears to cost us 80c according to the toll calculator!

We hand the vehicle back tomorrow. It’ll be interesting to see what Cruise America are going to offer by way of compensation. Not heard anything from them for several days although I have continued to text them.

Before we left we visited the Quechee Gorge, billed at the second best gorge after the Grand Canyon. Well, it was good, but not that good. It was spectacular and well worth the visit and forms today’s blip, with apologies for another river scene.

The gorge, which now has the Ottauquechee River flowing through it, was created at the end of the last ice age when a glacial lake drained rapidly with millions of tons of water quickly eroding the gorge. Much like the Ironbridge Gorge was created by the overspill of glacial Lake Lapworth.

Tonight we’re holed up at the Oak Haven Campground, all packed up (almost) having eaten all the remaining food and drink in a unique cocktail which could never be repeated. And the rain is gently rippling on the roof. Time to move on. When we’ve dropped off the RV and haggled with the site we travel back to Boston for an evening flight to San Diego.
