Life through the lens...

The Poppy Line.

The Poppy Line, also known as the North Norfolk Railway.
One of our delightful Heritage Steam Railways run almost entirely by volunteers.
The area of North Norfolk was christened “ Poppyland” by Clement Scott. in the 1880’s.
He was the Drama Critic of the Daily Telegraph, and was so taken with his first visit to Norfolk in 1883 he wrote about the area in the newspaper, and later in a poem entitled
“ The Garden of Sleep”
This helped to kick start Norfolk Tourism in the Victorian times.

We caught the train from Holt to Sheringham, where we spent an enjoyable few hours walking along the sea front, eating crab sandwiches and cockles, having a nice coffe in a very old fashioned cafe, and looking round this delightful little town, which still has that old fashioned feel of the 1950’s which is when Mr C first came here as a little boy.

Managed to dodge the showers, and even saw some sunshine, although very briefly.

Back relaxing now, and looking forward to our meal this evening at The Moorings in Blakeney.

Unfortunately our last day here before moving further South to the Broards.
