The great circle of life

From the first curve, you could see these beautiful red-tailed tropicbirds flying out over the coastline.   These are such sleek looking birds and for the first time, I have a shot of one that appears disheveled - or perhaps, it's a youngster?    The red streamers are pretty obvious, but a ruffled head and body, wings akimbo . . .  ?    Take a look at the extra, what do you think . . .?
